- 1. Warm-up (20 min) Build through 3 routes to a genuine moderate effort, one light pump, full recovery.
- 2. Doubles — 3-4 sets One set = two routes climbed back-to-back with only the lower-off between them (clip, lower, pull rope, go). Combined difficulty should have you finishing the second route at RPE 9 — pick the pair so the second route's top is a battle of composure, not a guaranteed fall.
- 3. Rest 10-15 min between sets Full-ish recovery — this trains sustained near-limit output, not survival flailing. Belay, sit, chalk, review.
- 4. Composure standard The rep only counts if you keep climbing WELL while deeply pumped: feet stay precise, breathing stays deliberate, clips stay calm. When technique collapses, the set taught its opposite — stop there.
- 5. Stop rule + scheduling Failed second route twice → done for the day. 1×/week max in a route-fitness phase; never within 48h of a performance day.
